Serie A - Toni joins Roma

Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni has joined Roma on loan until the end of June.

The 32-year-old is surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena after falling out with coach Louis Van Gaal.

EPL - Wigan sign keeper Stojkovic

Wigan Athletic has sign Sporting Lisbon's goalkeeper, Vladimir Stojkovic, on loan.

The deal will be subject to a work permit, visa and international clearance when the transfer window opens.

EPL - Megson sacked

Gary Megson has been sacked as manager of Bolton Wanderers with first team coach Steve Wigley and assistant manager Chris Evans taking over first-team duties with immediate effect.

Megson, who had a strained relationship with the Bolton fans ever since replacing Sammy Lee, steered the club away from relegation after an abysmal start to the campaign by Lee and achieved a mid-table finish last season. But with only eight victories under his belt in the past 12 months, fans had become increasingly frustrated, frequently venting their anger by booing Megson.

Mark Hughes and Darren Ferguson have emerged as the early favourites to take-up the vacancy.

EPL - Hodgson signs new deal

Manager Roy Hodgson has signed a new twelve month rolling-contract with Fulham.

The Craven Cottage outfit currently sit ninth in the Premier League and have a date with Shakthar Donetsk for a place in the last-16 of the Europa League.

Real Madrid have moved to quash rumours that they have been approached by Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan with a 1 billion euro offer to buy out the Spanish giants.

EPL - Gunners to contest FA charge

Club manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Arsenal will contest the charge of failing to control their players in the Premier League match against Hull City.

The match erupted shortly before half-time when Samir Nasri appeared to tread on the ankle of Hull's Richard Garcia. Stephen Hunt then clashed with Nasri and a mass confrontation took place in front of referee Steve Bennett.

The clubs have until January 13 to formally respond to the FA charges.

EPL - No return date for Ferdinand

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has had an injection in an attempt to ease his long-standing back complaint but Ferguson still can't put a timescale for the centre-back's return

Ferdinand has been out of action since the end of October, missing 13 games including England's friendly against Brazil.

Primera - Almeria appoint Lillo

Almeria have appointed Juan Manuel Lillo as coach to replace the sacked Hugo Sanchez.

Lillo, 44, had previous experience in charge at clubs including Salamanca, Real Zaragoza and Real Sociedad.

Primera - Gay to stay until end of season

Jose Aurelio Gay, who was promoted from second team coach will stay on until the end of the season.

Zaragoza got hammered 6-0 by Real Madrid last weekend and is in 19th position in the league standings.

Primera - David Villa suggests interest in Premier League

Valencia striker David Villa has suggested he would now be keen to secure a move to the Premier League.

This will alert the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City, which were previously linked with the 28 years old striker.

EPL - Hull and Arsenal charged

The FA have charged both clubs with failing to control their players following a mass confrontation during the teams' clash on December 19.

The confrontation took place in front of referee Steve Bennett. Hunt and Nasri were booked eventually.

The clubs have until January 13 to respond.

EPL - Man Utd starlet Diouf given work permit

Striker Mame Biram Diouf has been granted a work permit and will be available for selection in January.

Diouf, 22, joined from Molde in the summer but has remained at the Norwegian club on loan while the permit issues were resolved.

Intl - Levein leaves Dundee United to take Scotland job

Craig Levein has agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal to manage the national squad after leaving his post at Dundee United.

Dundee United will received £250,000 in compensation from the SFA.

Serie A - Lazio ordered to release Pandev

Pandev has been at Lazio since 2004 and was a firm fans' favourite at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Macedonian was frozen out and forced to train separately from his former team-mates after filing a transfer request.

The decision means that the striker can leave on a free transfer in January.

Intl - Barcelona win Club World Cup

Lionel Messi struck an extra-time winner as Barcelona fought back against Estudiantes to win the Club World Cup.

Estudiantes led through to a Mauro Boselli's 37th-minute header in Abu Dhabi before substitute Pedro Rodriguez equalise for Barcelona on the 89th min.

It was then left for Messi, who recently won FIFA World Player of the Year award, to pop up in the 110th minute to chest home the winner.

The win is the sixth piece of silverware for Barcelona in an amazing year.

Former Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini will take over the charge after the 4-3 defeat of Sunderland.

Ryan Giggs has signed a one-year contract extension, committing himself to Manchester United until June 2011.

West Ham United have announced that the striker has been forced to retire from professional football at the age of 26.

Ashton had not played a first-team game for 14 months since suffering an ankle injury at England training in August 2006.

EPL - Johnson could miss rest of season

Manchester City Michael Johnson could miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in training.

It is another setback for the midfielder who has only recently returned to the squad, as an unused substitute in the victory against Chelsea, after nearly a year's out with an abdominal problem.

EPL - Vela agrees new deal

Carlos Vela joins the likes of Eduardo, Sanchez Watt, Alex Song, Nicklas Bendtner, Denilson, Robin Van Persie, Theo Walcott, Lukasz Fabianski, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere in committing his long-term future to Arsenal this season.

The Mexican has made 38 first-team appearances for Arsenal since making his debut last season.

EPL - Bendtner suffered setback

Bendtner, who had not played since the 3-0 win over Tottenham on October 31, has suffered a setback on his comeback from a groin injury.

The striker is expected to be out till New Year.

EPL - Toffees confirm talks to sign striker Landon Donovan

Everton are confident of bringing the striker to Merseyside on January 2, in time to make his Premier League debut against Arsenal on January 9.

Donovan is the MLS Most Valuable Player for the 2009 season and has previously played for both Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.

EPL - Essien out for up to a month

The Ghanian was injured in the first half of Tuesday's 2-2 Champions League draw with Cypriot side APOEL Nicosiam and will be out for three to four weeks after scans revealed a torn hamstring.

Intl - Final list for FIFA World Player of the Year award

Players from Real Madrid and Barcelona dominated the final shortlist for FIFA World Player of the Year award.

Messi, Xavi and Andres Iniesta from Barcelona is joined by Real's Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.

For the women's award, England striker Kelly Smith is up against Brazil's duo Cristiane and Marta and Germany's pair of Inka Grings and Birgit Prinz.

The winners will be announced on December 21 in Zurich.

Serie A - Catania sack coach Atzori

The Serie A struggler sacked coach Gianluca Atzori and named former Bologna boss Sinisa Mihajlovic as his replacement.

Mihajlovic, who made his name as a tough-tackling defender, took his first steps into management last season with Serie A Bologna but was sacked in April after only six months in charge.

EPL - Bullard out for weeks

A scan on Jimmy Bullard's injured knee revealed that he would be out for six to eight weeks.

The midfielder is likely to miss home games against Blackburn, Manchester United and Chelsea, plus away days at Arsenal, Bolton and possibly Tottenham but should be back for the return at Old Trafford at the end of January.
