EPL - Song signs new deal

The Cameroon midfielder Alexandre Song, who has established himself as a first-team regular, has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal.

The 22 year old follows on from Croatian striker Eduardo and Sanchez Watt, who both signed new long-term deals in the past week.

Intl - Toni suspended

Luca Toni has been suspended by Bayern Munich following his critical remarks about coach Louis van Gaal.

The Italian striker said on a TV programme that he wanted a move back to Serie A and described his relationship with Van Gaal is "as good as over'.

EPL - Pompey sack manager

Portsmouth has sacked manager Paul Hart after the club's poor start to the season.

Hart was appointed in February as a caretaker boss to take over from former manager Tony Adams and became full time in July.

Intl - FIFA call crisis meeting

President Sepp Blatter has called a crisis meeting of FIFA chiefs following Republic of Ireland's controversial World Cup exit at the hands of France.

But the world governing body is not considering a U-turn over its decision to refuse a replay.

The meeting will also deal with the violence sparked by Egypt and Algeria's World Cup play-off and the hundreds of arrests across Europe by officers investigating corruption in football.

Palermo have named Delio Rossi as their new coach, hours after parting company with Walter Zenga.

Rossi who has signed a contract until June 2011, has previously guided Lazio to the Coppa Italia in the 2008-09 campaign.

Int'l - German police reveal match-fixing probe

Police in Germany and abroad have made several arrests and conducted searches on suspicion of an international illegal betting ring allegedly fixing matches in top European leagues.

According to reports, matches in the Turkish Super Lig are affected.

Bochum prosecution will hold a news conference on Friday to provide further details.

World Cup 2010 - FAI request replay

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) have lodged a formal complaint with FIFA over the controversial World Cup play-off defeat to France.

French striker Thierry Henry clearly handled the ball before setting up William Gallas' decisive goal as France drew 1-1 (2-1 on aggregate) at the Stade de France. The goal has caused outrage across Europe

The FAI have urged the governing body to replay the match.

EPL: Eduardo pens long-term contract

The Croatian striker has signed a new long-term contract at the club.

The 26-year-old Croatian has scored 18 goals in 48 appearances for the Gunners and is set for a prominent role in the coming weeks after injury to fellow striker Robin van Persie.

EPL: Bellamy could be forced to quit in two years

Citing the niggling injuries that have blighted his career, Manchester City and Wales striker Craig Bellamy believes that he could be force to quit the game in two years time.

The striker is curently enjoying the best form of his career and has scored five goals this season for the Eastlands club.

Int'l: Axe falls on Burley

George Burley was under severe criticism following Scotland's failure to reach the 2010 World Cup and the last straw came after the 3-0 defeat to Wales, which saw the fans turning on Burley.

SFA chief executive Gordon Smith canvassed 10 colleagues on the SFA board and they came to a unanimous decision to terminate his contract.

Int'l: De Nigris dies in Greece

Mexican international Antonio de Nigris has died of a suspected heart attack, his club Larissa confirmed on Monday.

The 31-year-old striker was rushed to hospital in the early hours of Monday morning but was pronounced dead on arrival.

De Nigris had represented Mexico 16 times, including at the 2001 Copa America.

Serie A: Inler is not for sale

Udinese have no plans to sell Gokhan Inler despite several clubs having expressed an interest in the Switzerland international.

Inler, who has made 11 league appearance for Udinese, is contracted to the club until 2012.

EPL: Man admits knife attack

A man pleaded guilty to a knife attack on West Ham United defender Calum Davenport.

The attack left the player with a 15-inch scar on his leg after the attack in August.

Int'l: Diego Maradona slapped with two-month suspension

The Argentina manager has been banned from football for two months and fined £14,800 by FIFA for his rant at journalists after Argentina's qualification for the World Cup finals.

Maradona will not be able to manage his side when Argentina face Czech Republic in a friendly on December 12. He will also miss the draw for next year's World Cup finals.

Arsenal have been dealt a huge injury blow with the news that star striker Robin van Persie could face several months.

The Dutchman was stretched off after just 15 minutes of the Netherlands 0-0 draw with Italy.

Int'l: Germany stunned by Enke suicide

According to Lower Saxony police, the 32-year-old Hannover 96 keeper was hit by a train at a crossing early on Tuesday evening and left a suicide note.

Enke, who was in the running to be Germany's starting goalkeeper at next year's World Cup in South Africa, had been at Hannover since 2004.

Fans flocked to Hannover's Niedersachsen Stadion where they were laying flowers and lighting candles at the gates in memory of their captain.

The news of his death have stunned fellow players, coaches and fans.

EPL: Chelsea transfer ban suspended

Chelsea were initially handed a FIFA ban over the next two transfer windows after they were found guilty of inducing French teenager Gael Kakuta to breach his contract with Lens in 2007.

The club has appealed against the punishment and the Court of Arbitration for Sport has granted Chelsea's request to suspend their transfer ban pending a final decision.

This means the Blues will be allowed to sign new players in January if the final decision is not taken before the transfer window.

Primera: Spanish league decides not to strike over tax hike

Spain's professional soccer league (LFP) has decided not to strike over a planned tax hike for top-earning foreigners after a meeting with officials from the 42 clubs in Spain's top two division.

Another meeting is scheduled on Nov. 19 to discuss any progress made in talks with the government.

The new measure will raise taxes for foreign players who earn above 600,000 euros ($892,600) a year to 43 percent from 24 percent.

WC 2010: Bosnia wait on FIFA approval for Haris Medunjanin

Bosnia coach Miroslav Blazevich has include the player in the squad to face Portugal.and is hoping that the uncapped midfielder Haris Medunjanin will be granted approval by FIFA in time to make his debut

The 24 years old, fled the war in Bosnia to the Netherlands in 1992 and has won back-to-back Under-21 European Championships with the Dutch.
