WC2010 - Diarra left sick by World Cup blow

The French Football Federation revealed on Saturday that Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra will miss the World Cup finals due to a stomach complaint.

Diarra was named in Raymond Domenech's squad for the finals in South Africa after making 23 appearances in the Primera Liga this season as Real finished second to Barcelona.

But Diarra was unable to train with his international team-mates on Thursday, Friday or Saturday and has now been withdrawn from consideration.

A replacement player has not yet been called up to join France in the Alpine resort of Tignes where they are preparing for the finals in South Africa.

Les Bleus face Mexico, South Africa and Uruguay in Group A.

WC2010 - France cut squad by six

France coach Raymond Domenech has all but confirmed his final 23 for the World Cup finals, cutting his initial 30-man squad down by six with the only remaining question mark over the fitness of William Gallas.

Gallas has only played once for Arsenal since February, and he again broke down in the first half of the Champions League clash with Barcelona as he attempted a comeback. Marc Planus of Bordeaux is retained in case Gallas fails to make it to South Africa.

Mickael Landreau (Lille), Rod Fanni (Rennes), Adil Rami (Lille), Yann M'Vila (Rennes), Hatem Ben Arfa (Marseille) and Jimmy Briand (Rennes) have not received invites from Domenech to link up with the training camp, which begins in Tignes on Tuesday.

France are drawn in Group A alongside hosts South Africa, Mexico and Uruguay, their opponents in their first game in Cape Town on June 11.

Squad: Cedric Carrasso (Bordeaux), Hugo Lloris (Lyon), Steve Mandanda (Marseille); Eric Abidal (Barcelona), Gael Clichy (Arsenal), Patrice Evra (Manchester United), William Gallas (Arsenal), Marc Planus (Bordeaux), Anthony Reveillere (Lyon), Bacary Sagna (Arsenal), Sebastien Squillaci (Sevilla); Abou Diaby (Arsenal), Alou Diarra (Bordeaux), Lassana Diarra (Real Madrid), Yoann Gourcuff (Bordeaux), Florent Malouda (Chelsea), Jeremy Toulalan (Lyon); Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea), Djibril Cisse (Panathinaikos), Andre-Pierre Gignac (Toulouse), Sidney Govou (Lyon), Thierry Henry (Barcelona), Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich), Mathieu Valbuena (Marseille).
