Disciplinary committee issued final verdicts

Newly-promoted Atalanta will start the new Serie A season with a six-point deduction while captain, Cristiano Doni has received a three-and-a-half-year ban for alleged match-fixing.

Both Atalanta and former Italy international Doni are expected to appeal their respective decisions. If the personal ban is upheld, it practically draws a close to 38-year-old Doni's 20-year career.

Former Lazio captain Giuseppe Signori, who is now retired, has been banned from all footballing activities for five years, with Benevento goalkeeper Marco Paoloni also banned for the same time period after allegedly drugging his team-mates at Cremonese last season.

Benevento themselves received a nine-point penalty, Ascoli six points and Piacenza four.

Serie A - Promotion joy for Lecce and Cesena

Lecce and Cesena were promoted to Serie A on the final day of fixtures in Italian football's second tier.

Lecce, having wasted opportunities to make sure of promotion in their last two matches, are celebrating their eighth elevation to the top flight in the last 25 years after a goalless home draw with Sassuolo clinched the Serie B title.

Cesena accompany the Salentini into Serie A, with on-loan Chievo midfielder Marco Parolo giving them a 1-0 win at Piacenza which sealed the runners-up spot and ended a 19-year exile from the top division.

Brescia, who started the day in second place, slipped up with a 2-1 defeat at Padova - and will join Sassuolo, Cittadella and Torino in the play-offs.
