EL - Europa League ties to go ahead

UEFA have announced that both Europa League semi-final, first leg clashes will go ahead on Thursday.

The games were in serious doubt due to the cloud of volcanic ash which continues to hang over northern Europe and has forced British airspace to be closed for days. But both Liverpool and Fulham will have to make the trips to Madrid and Hamburg respectively, most likely by land if planes remain grounded.

UEFA had already insisted that the Champions League games this week will take place though the journeys which Barcelona and Lyon face are far shorter. For instance, Barca's coach journey to Milan on Sunday was just over 600 miles.
