Wenger facing UEFA sanctions

UEFA has started disciplinary proceedings against Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger after he was seen to be communicating with first-team coach Boro Primorac during Tuesday's Champions League tie with Udinese.

Wenger was serving a touchline ban following the fallout from last season's second-round exit to Barcelona, but he is said to have used Primorac to pass on messages to assistant Pat Rice during the 1-0 victory at Emirates Stadium.

Wenger has expressed his frustration at the lack of clarity over the situation having apparently been informed by the governing body that he would be allowed to speak to Primorac during the match.

At his press conference on Friday, Wenger said: "It's a big surprise, but we are completely open to any enquiries. We have nothing to hide. I don't think we've done anything wrong. I did not communicate with the bench. They gave us the rules and we observed strictly what they told us."
