Manager Steve Bruce expects a hip injury to sideline striker Kenwyne Jones for at least a month in news that could undermine Sunderland's chances of pulling decisively away from the relegation zone.
Bruce has utilised Jones in tandem with top scorer Darren Bent and the former has contributed with eight goals of his own, with the latest, against City, seeing Sunderland move seven points clear of danger.
