Serie A - Sampdoria appoint Domenico Di Carlo as coach

Sampdoria have appointed former Chievo coach Domenico Di Carlo as their new manager on a two-year contract, after Luigi Del Neri left to join Juventus.

Di Carlo, 46, kept unfancied Chievo in Serie A for two successive campaigns, but has just three years coaching experience in the top flight.

Samp finished fourth in the league last season and will play in the Champions League qualifying round.

Reports in Italy suggest that one of Di Carlo's first transfer targets at his new club will be French striker David Trezeguet.

Trezeguet has one year left on his Juventus contract and has not ruled out staying at the Old Lady, but his family reside in Monaco which is why he could be tempted by a move to nearby Samp.
